On September 15, 2026, the Biennale di Venezia announced the opening of both national and international calls for two new, original choreographies. These works are set to premiere on the stage of the 21st International Festival of Contemporary Dance, Biennale Danza 2027, scheduled from July 15 to 31, 2027.
Artists and dance companies interested in submitting their proposals can do so online via the official Biennale website until October 20, 2026. The selected choreographies will receive support from the Biennale Foundation, which will cover essential production costs including artistic fees, travel, accommodation, and technical requirements necessary for the project’s presentation.
Wayne McGregor, the Artistic Director of the Dance Sector, will be responsible for selecting the two choreographies. The Foundation encourages submissions from both individual artists and collaborative partnerships, aiming to foster innovative contemporary dance creations.
This initiative marks the sixth consecutive year that Biennale Danza has actively supported emerging generations of dancers and companies both within Italy and internationally. Previous editions have featured works such as "A Good Man is Hard to Find" by the British duo Bullyache and "Sisifo felice" by Philippe Kratz and Pablo Girolami with the Nuovo Balletto di Toscana, as well as "Just Between Me and Jesus" by New Zealander Oli Mathiesen and "Invisible" by Andrea Salustri in 2026.
The call for submissions reflects the Biennale’s ongoing commitment to nurturing new talent and enriching the contemporary dance scene through fresh and diverse choreographic voices.
